Natalie wants my bed to be big enough so she can sleep in it (and Lukie too) and watch tv with me on it. The only problem is the fact that after I started my initial search a few months ago for the perfect new Sealy mattress set, I came across pages and pages of complaints about four different stores (one of which really surprised me considering it’s a reputable department store) which not only bring the mattress to your house but they also bring bedbugs. So I postponed my new bed search in fear of accidentally bringing bedbugs into the apartment.
Seems like bed bugs have become the new rat of Manhattan. And they are just all over the place. Yuck. News reports have people throwing out their furniture, management companies refusing to help them so they move out their apartment, and even a woman who left the state because of them! Double Yuck.
Now even SNL mama Maya Rudolph has been bothered by bedbugs. Her $13,500 a month SoHo apartment where she lived with her husband and daughter is infested with them. Makes me wonder what the odds of someone living in a $3,000 a month apartment in Manhattan are for not getting bedbugs.
It’s even gotten to be a running joke on Craigslist where posters write open letters to their bed bug roommates. But seriously doesn’t it just seem to be too much to have to go through such lengths that you are throwing out your furniture. You finally find a couch you like and now you have to toss it?
I just can’t sleep on this bed anymore. I’ve had it forever. It’s time for a change already. Hopefully in a few weeks when I get a chance to go shopping, it’ll be a change for the better.

I think it’s time for me to break my silence about Britney Spears. I’m getting too many emails.
I don’t care if she has a manny. Or that he is a Naval academy grad. And I could care less whether or not she wears an itsy bitsy teeny weeny bikini while 6 months pregnant (She’s definitely braver than I was when I was pregnant with my second child! More power to her.)
This is what I honestly don’t understand… Why did her publicist book her for the exclusive interview with Matt Lauer so she could defend herself and then not help her with her hair, makeup and wardrobe? Can someone tell me the reasoning behind that? So many questions — Why would her publicist let her go on television in a very unflattering maternity top, way too much makeup and a hair style which just confuses me. And why when she has way too many mood swinging pregnancy hormones?!?
I have gotten so many emails about that interview and while I wondered why anyone cared about my opinion… oh yeah, that’s right now I remember… I decided to just post my thoughts instead of writing everyone and responding to the good, the bad, and the oh so ugly.
Here are my thoughts in a nutshell about the Britney Spears incedents over the past few months and the interview -
When she initially was photographed driving with her son on her lap, I was contacted by a major newspaper to comment and I said I wouldn’t because as a celebrity having to deal with paparazzi hounding her, I figured she did it because she felt she was in danger and had to get away quickly. (And I know I personally would do anything to get my children out of harms way if I felt they were in danger.) Then that reporter let me in on a little secret … Britney had confessed earlier that day to just driving without putting her son in his rear facing car seat because she was “country”. Um ok. So much for me sticking up for her. lol
And then there was the high chair incident, and the walking in Manhattan and tripping as she held a glass of water/soda/tea incident. She is always in the media recently and it seems to always be something negative.
Then moms across the country started to come of out of the woodwork to defend Britney’s parenting skills.. her mothering abilities and bloggers have started to apologize for the mean things they said.
And I sit here admitting that the only parts of last night’s interview I saw were the clips I was shown while at the studio this morning. But believe me.. they were enough for me to be sure to not let either of my children attend a playdate hosted by Britney Spears until her life has the turn around she needs (and will eventually get.)

Standing on line for anything unnecessary stopped when my days at Great Adventure ended. Of course now that I’m “Mama Victoria Pericon” (as Natalie calls me) I have to wait online with her to meet her favorite characters at today’s Children’s Day event at the South Street Seaport sponsored by Target.
The day started out pretty good… found a 3 hour parking spot (two blocks away!) and that was beyond exciting since I was determined to not pay the $20 an hour “special event” parking rate all of the nearby lots were offering.. Nat went in the Volo (armed with her Dora backpack) and Lukie in the Sidekick and we were off to find Dora. The schedule said Dora wouldn’t be there for a few hours so we stood on line to meet Bert and Ernie. And then to take photos with Zee and Moose A. Moose from Noggin. Only Luke has a photo with the Noggin scene because after waiting a half hour to take her Noggin scene photo, Natalie decided she didn’t want to take that photo. Yeah. I know. Life as a two year old.
Everywhere Luke and Natalie turned they were handed some sort of promotional giveaway — Target kites, Noggin crayons and CDs, Bob the Builder and Barney VHS tapes, coloring books and all these other random items.
Saw a few celebrity moms with their kids ….
It got to be overwhelmingly crowded so we left … wasn’t really planning to see Teddy Geiger and the fireworks because it would have ended way past their bedtime.
So we got back in the car, picked up my mother and headed to City Island for some seafood… a little tradition we’ve had for close to 10 years.
Totally not expecting to find one on City Island, I spotted an Alice’s Tea Cup. It looks like they are getting ready to open it sometime soon. I love Alice’s Tea Cup, I just really hope they don’t turn into Duane Reade. Every other corner. It’d really take away from it’s charm.
